Forestry community site visit/tour
The Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed, along with partners is planning a tour/site visit to the forestry project we have going on at the Ben Delatour Scout Ranch near Red Feather Lakes. I have attached some more information...this summer's event will take place on the cub scout portion of the scout ranch.
We will get to see some of the effects of the prescribed fire that the Nature Conservancy was able to implement last fall and hear from some other partners including the US Forest Service, Natural Resource Conservation Service, the Nature Conservancy and the Colorado Forest Restoration Institute (CSU) about forest health, planning and monitoring.
The event is planned for Saturday, June 23rd from 9:00 - noon with lunch provided. If you are interested, RSVP and I can get you more info. Feel free to spread the word as well, the more the merrier! An Illustrated History of the Picnic Tablecontributed by
From campground to crab shack to suburban backyard, the picnic table is so ubiquitous that it is nearly invisible as a designed object. Yet this ingenious form — a structurally bolted frame that unites bench seats and table into a sturdy package — has remained largely unchanged since the 1930s. Having transcended the picnic, it is now the ideal setting for any outdoor event that compels us to face one another squarely across a shared surface.

Important News from the CSFS Nurserycontributed by
Over the years, we have been happy to help folks coming into the Nursery during the entirety of the week. However, as our environment changes, so must we. As such, starting on July 2nd, 2018 the Colorado State Forest Service Nursery will only be open on Fridays for retail customers and visitors. Open hours on Fridays will be from 8 am until 3:30 pm. Of course, we will still be completely available by phone and email for any questions, ordering, tour organization, and the like.

Bird Song Identification Guidecontributed by
The Smithsonian Bird SongIdentification Guide helps identify songs and sounds of North American birds.
The guide presents users with a series of choices on the qualities or attributes of the sound they are trying to identify. Some of the choices are quite objective (e.g., number of different notes in the sound), while other choices may be more subjective (which sounds are harsh or unmusical).
Each choice has a short description of that sound attribute and a listing of the species which will be included if chosen. Users can highlight a species in the select box, and press the 'Select bird' button to display a link to the species' sound file and a description of the sound they will hear.
